The Media Information Literacy (MIL) Project is launched in response to an urgent and escalating threat: the relentless spread of misinformation and disinformation in the Philippines. As false information erodes public trust, distorts reality, and threatens the very foundation of our democracy, it is crucial that we take a stand. Under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., this initiative represents a powerful, united effort to reclaim truth and protect our society.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has spearheaded the MIL Campaign, partnering with key government agencies to deliver a collective commitment to the public. This partnership underscores our dedication to preserving the integrity of public discourse through comprehensive education and active engagement.
Additionally, the MIL Campaign has united with major social media platforms and various civil society organizations to strengthen our defenses against the spread of falsehoods, especially in the digital realm.
We call on the public to join us in this crucial mission. Your involvement can make a profound impact—whether by reporting misinformation, participating in our activities, or supporting our initiatives. Every action you take contributes to our fight for truth and transparency. Stand with us to build a more informed, resilient, and empowered society. Your voice and your actions are essential in this battle to preserve the truth.

In August 2023, we launched the Media and Information Literacy Project by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. showed his support, and our private partners—Meta, Google, TikTok, and X—joined us in this important effort. Together, we began a new chapter in empowering and educating our society.

By September 2023, we introduced "Maging Mapanuri" as the dynamic brand for our MIL Campaign. This brand is designed to captivate younger audiences while maintaining our core mission of empowering the public to be critical consumers of information. To amplify our message and engage directly with the youth, we launched a logo-making contest, inviting young people to create a symbol that reflects our dedication to involving the community in shaping a more informed future.

By October 2023, we hosted the inaugural Maging Mapanuri Summit in celebration of Communications Month and UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week. This landmark event brought together key leaders and pioneers in the fight against misinformation and disinformation in the country.
Representatives from GMA7, Google, TikTok, UNACOM, PAMIL, the MIL for ASEAN Network, and the PCO came together to share their vital roles in this collective effort. Their collaboration highlighted the powerful impact of united action in advancing media literacy and protecting the truth.
At the same summit, we celebrated the creativity and dedication of the winners from our logo-making contest, which saw participation from 44 talented students across the country. The grand prize of Php 50,000.00 was awarded to the student whose design best captured the spirit of our campaign. This moment was a testament to the powerful voice of youth and their essential role in shaping our mission.

By December 2023, we kicked off the PCO Community Campus Caravan, an initiative designed to engage directly with the youth and introduce them to the vital services offered by the PCO, as well as the importance of media and information literacy. This tour aimed to equip students with essential skills and foster a deeper understanding of media literacy.
We were warmly welcomed by the campuses of the Lyceum of the Philippines and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, where we connected with students and inspired them to become informed and critical consumers of information.

By February 2024, the Maging Mapanuri team traveled to Region VIII as part of the PCO Community Campus Caravan. There, we were welcomed by some of the most enthusiastic students in the country. Students from the Leyte Normal University and Eastern Visayas University showed eagerness to learn and their shared commitment to becoming critical consumers of information were truly inspiring.

By March 2024, our campus caravan journeyed further south to Bukidnon State University and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. Engaging with these passionate students fueled our drive and inspired us to extend our efforts even further.

By April 2024, we held a pivotal capacity-building workshop for Philippine Information Agency (PIA) officials and staff, enhancing their expertise in media literacy. Leveraging PIA’s extensive grassroots reach across the Philippines, we entrusted them with developing crucial learning and teaching modules. These modules are set to empower trainers nationwide, ensuring that media literacy education spreads effectively and profoundly throughout the country.

By May 2024, the PCO launched TechTalks—a transformative series of workshops aimed at empowering government communicators with advanced digital skills and media literacy. We welcomed leading experts from Google, Meta, and TikTok, who shared invaluable insights on maximizing their platforms and how they respectively combat misinformation and disinformation.

By June 2024, the PCO partnered with YouTube to host a specialized TechTalk workshop dedicated to elevating the government's digital storytelling and enhancing content integrity across the Philippines. Expert speakers highlighted how the platform can be harnessed to combat misinformation and amplify diverse, informed voices through strategic content creation and innovative formats. This initiative is designed to empower creators and stakeholders, enabling them to engage audiences more effectively and drive positive change and economic growth in the country’s digital landscape.

By July 2024, we conducted a pivotal consultation and review of the MIL Modules developed by the PIA, bringing together representatives from esteemed civil society organizations, including the MIL for ASEAN Network, Philippine Association of Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), Break the Fake Movement, and Bayan Academy - Meta.
The feedback and insightful comments from these experts were transformative, guiding us to refine our materials and sharpen our focus. Their contributions marked a crucial step in enhancing our efforts to deliver impactful media literacy education and empower communities across the nation.
By August 2024, we held the inaugural Technical Working Group meeting between the PCO and some of the leading Civil Society Organizations dedicated to battling misinformation and disinformation in the country. This gathering solidified our collective commitment and aligned our efforts, setting a clear and coordinated path for impactful initiatives in the final months of the year. Together, we are driving forward with renewed focus and determination in our fight for truth and transparency.

By February 2025, PCO strengthened its commitment to truth and accountability through the Siguraduhing Totoo: Fact-Checking and Online Verification Training. In collaboration with VERA Files, this initiative equipped Fact-Check Officers across government state media with essential verification skills to combat misinformation. Conducted nationwide, the training honed 75 Fact-Check Officers with fact-checking techniques and editorial oversight, ensuring that state media upholds accuracy and integrity.

By March 2025, the PCO advanced its Maging Mapanuri initiative with an MIL Training of Trainers and Module Review. This milestone strengthened the nation’s fight against misinformation by equipping 40 educators across the nation with essential strategies to cultivate critical thinking and media literacy. Through expert-led workshops and module refinement, the program has taken the first step in shaping the next generation to become champions of truth, integrity, and informed engagement.
